Musical festival is back with a lineup of free live international jazz and events for all ages

The Technopolis at Gazi (Old Gas Factory) is joining forces with the Onassis Cultural Center once again to put on the 16th Technopolis Jazz Festivalfrom May 25 to 29. A total of 18 music groups are slated to perform, whereas a series of parallel activities aimed at all ages, promise to open the world of jazz to an even bigger audience and draw an even greater number of concert-goers to last year’s whopping 30,000 visitors.
The event kicks off on the May 25th with the Athens Big Band taking the stage, followed by the Momo Trio, an ensemble of musicians that has been carefully selected by the organizers to represent Greece this year, followed by the Mário Laginha Trio from Portugal.
On Thursday, May 26, the festival stage will welcome the Gilad Hekselman Duo from Israel, Veronika Harcsa and Bálint Gyémánt from Hungary, Marius Neset Quartet from Norway and the Kratochvil / Ackerman/ Zangi Jazz Trio from the Czech Republic.
On Friday, May 27, acts on stage include the Ineke / Dimitriadis / Stanik / Guilfoyle Group from the Netherlands, Pol Belardi’s Force from Luxembourg, the Beat Kaestli and Marc Perrenoud Trio from Switzerland and the Hidden Orchestra, a solo project of multi-instrumentalist / composer and producer Joe Acheson from Brighton in the UK.
On Saturday, May 28, the audience will have the chance to enjoy a showcomprising the Military Big Band of Athens, the Pierre de Surgères Trio from Belgium, Nono García and Pablo Novoa from Spain and the Naoko Sakata Trio from Sweden.
The final day of the festival on May 29 will host the TriCoolOre featuring Pantelis Stoikos from Cyprus, followed by Quadro Nuevo from Germany. The festival closes with a performance by Erkan Oğur and Telvin from Turkey.
Parallel events include two photographic exhibitions entitled Desire and Jazz Moments as well as Meet Market, a marketplace of local goods, handmade items from independent designers, vintage labels, food items, records and DJ sets to set a feel-good tone.
